Anatomy of a Tsunami

A tsunami is a series of waves caused by the displacement of large volumes of water in an ocean o large lake, an dare usually caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, meteorite impacts and landslides.

Tsunamis can range in size from only a few inches to more that 30 feet tall. Tsunamis are a frequent occurrence in Japan; approximately 195 events have been recorded.
